Richard “Dick” Arlen Meyers passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 27, 2019.
Dick was born July 5, 1934, to Catherine (Komar) and Edward Meyers. He was the second of their three sons. Dick grew up knowing that hard work was the only kind of work and his determination led him through South High School, then Grand Rapids Junior College and he completed his studies at the University of Michigan where he graduated with his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
Fresh out of college, Dick went to work for the Gas Company and met the love of his life - a young, beautiful Apple Queen from Sparta, Virginia Beuschel. Richard and Virginia were married at St. Francis Catholic Church in Conklin on April 22, 1961. Shortly thereafter, their young family began to grow as daughter Elizabeth was born in 1962, followed by their only son Bradley Edward in 1963. Daughters Jaqueline and Kathleen joined their sister and brother in 1964 and 1967, respectively. And in 1972, Kristine completed their beautiful family.
While Virginia raised the children and tended to their home, Dick worked at Williams & Works for many years. Then, Dick and two colleagues created OMM Inc. in 1982; keeping his family near by employing his two oldest children, Liz and Brad. He eventually decided to part ways and build another firm: MBN Inc. in 1988 bringing along Liz to run the office and Brad to be his right hand. He retired from MBN in 2009, leaving the business to his son, Bradley, whom he had worked with every day since it was founded.
If Dick wasn’t working, he could be found on the golf course or in his yard - no one had greener grass or brighter flowers! Everyone who knew Dick knew his family, his work and his yard were his top priorities, but trips with family to his favorite casinos always brought a smile to his face - win or lose, he’d be back soon to play “his machines.”
Richard will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 57 years, Virginia and his five children: Elizabeth Korzeniauskas, Bradley (Victoria) Meyers, Jacqueline (Ronald) Zawistowski, Kathleen (John) Hickey and Kristine Meyers; his brother David (Bonnie) Meyers; his 14 grandchildren: Katelyn (Sam) Passenger, Chelsea (JD) Corey, Carleigh (William) Lewis, Kendra (DJ) Hallagin, Brendan (Emma Tjapkes) Meyers, Brett Meyers; Amie (Christopher) Gietzen, Matthew Korzeniauskas, Nickolas Korzeniauskas; Jennifer (Austin Gilroy) Hickey, Jason Hickey; Lauryn, Lynda and Michael Zawistowski and his 10 great-grandchildren: Alexa, Rylee and Henry Passenger; Graycen Corey; Madeline Zawistowski; Madison and Lucas Gietzen; Nolan, Shawn & Baby Hallagin; as well as his many brothers and sisters-in-law, and nieces and nephews.
Richard’s family would like to extend their warmest thanks to Spectrum Health Hospice - especially Amanda, Karen, Shandra and Cindy. The family also wishes to thank Jackie, Joseph, Mary and Lisa along with the rest of the Green Acres of Standale staff for their support, kindness and love these last few months.
The family will receive family and friends at the Beuschel Funeral Home, 5018 Alpine Avenue, Comstock Park on Friday, March 1, 2019 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 and 9:00 p.m. The Rosary will be at 8:30 p.m. with Deacon Leo Ferguson.
